ED.
Swelling hands? Weaknesses? Come to A&E. Chest pain? Palpitations? Come to A&E. Accidents? Bad injuries? Come to A&E. All A&E. That’s where it all started. So, this time, I was posted to A&E in Singapore General Hospital. What is A&E, you might be wondering. It means Accidental and Emergency or currently known as Emergency Department (ED). This place consist of various different parts. There’s Emergency Observation Ward (EOW), Operating Theatre(OT) / OTT (idk what the hell it it), Critical Care Unit (CCA) / Resus and finally Triage.

1st day, EOW where I only observe, take vitals, vitals, vitals, meals and talk to them, learn more about their problem. That’s all. Lucky we had a lot of orientation and time passes by really fast. Hmm, SN Hashimah was my guider for the day. Her temper was really bad. Haha! Lucky, there’s Abang (which May & Mimi made up). Haha! Abang eh. He helped me a lot. May was my partner through out that posting and ED is not so specific like in wards. The moment you take charge of a patient, the moment you went away to wash your hands or something, you come back, that patient is discharge. That’s how fast it can be. Haha!

2nd day, I was posted to OT / OTT. Believe me, I was really unlucky cause I was shot with cramp bullets on my tummy. PERIODS! Red light, PMS, whatever you call that. And I was bending like some old woman to somehow relieve the pain a little, running around looking for panadol, asking people to steal it for me. Haha! Lucky, Li Jun saved the day! And thanks to Mimi for asking it. Erm, apart from that, I was given the opportunity to assist a doctor in this small operation. Which is to cut part of this patient’s metacarpal because he has an infection and it makes the bone shorter and shorter in time. WOW, cut it like cutting a paper! And it smells like some raw meat even though I’m wearing a mask! Haha. Other than that, I get to see, how they did Thomas’ Splint in real life, knee aspiration and a lot more of like disinfect fingers. Yea, that’s about it.

3rd day was in CCA & Resus area where I met Mr Superman. Hahaha! Nolah, he’s just a doctor whom a patient claimed that he looks like superman. And he’s super cool cause he’s not monolingual neither bilingual but trilingual! Hahaha! Anyways, CCA has many scary cases as they are P2 patients and needs some attention. So i saw a lot of shivering patients, weak patients, SOB patients and a lot more. Resus was very amazing. So, especially when they put this patient as they detect early that patient is going to be in cardiac arrest like soon. All his vitals are like all over. Why? Fluid OVERLOAD! Hmm. And the surveyor was real cute lah! Haha.
4th day, was Triage where people come to A&E and has to meet the nurse first to take down his vitals and his complains before they are catergorised specifically into P1, P2, or P3. P1 is Resus, P2 is CCA or EOW and P3 is just normal consultation. So don’t waste your time in A&E unless your doctor really refer u to them okay. Yea, and that’s about it. Triage is simply BORING! But the guy SSN who orientate me & May was really nice though rather than the female one. Gosh, she’s really stuck up. I felt like a wall for a moment when I face her. Haha!

5th day or the LAST, chill chill baby day! Hide myself very long in the OT room. Hahaha! And it was a float day which means, I can choose where I wanna go. So, I chose OT where there’s only little cases and if there are cases, it’s just like minor, dressings and stuffs like that. And the SN there was this Filipino guy which I was soooo curious to know whether he’s Malay or not. Because he really look like Malay! I really felt like asking him but was scared la. Mimi was reluctant to ask too. Hahaha! Well, I think he’s Filipino though even though the centre name got ‘B’ I thought it’s a “bin”. Haha! And picture taking was the final blow before we call it an off day before OT comes the following Monday.

Till then.
