I'm just done with my Gerontology Posting at Thye Hua Kwan Hospital and Health Service for the Elderly at Tampines Polyclinic's New Horizon Centre. All I can say, for this current posting, it started off with a difficult and pretty stressful times but ended up with a happy one.
At AMKH, I had trouble with my lecturer, I seriously did. I eventually felt unhappy or unsatisfied with her. But I tried to control my anger and hold back my tears because I felt that she treated me unfairly compared to the rest. The thing is that, she likes to ask me things that is rather complicated especially in terms of medications. And I did 2 cases while some even only did one but she made a big fuss out of it when it comes to me. Only ME! Maybe it's because I just didn't bring my name tag on the very 1st day itself and i came late for the 2nd day. She made a very bad impression on me and decided to make me feel like a fool? Perhaps. But that doesn't mean she had to treat me likewise. And oh ya, I still remembered, the eve of Raya where all the muslims get to go off at 2pm, She wished the rest except me. I just realised that she didn't wish me at all! I felt rather disappointed and unfavoured by her at all. But I told her, I promised her to give my better case study and better understanding.
After Raya, I was away from AMKH and off to NH Centre. Something like day care centre but for elderly. They had therapy sessions, resting, mahjong, dominos, exercise and dancing. There were 4 others like Ayu, Rashmi, Kartini and Azahar. I still can't believe that Azahar made that place like some club. He really danced hardcore! And i can't believe I can do singing and dancing with all the old people. Hahaha! You know, showing some talents that is left behind the scenes. (usually done in bathroom kinda thing. haha!) And yea, that's about it.
After HSE, i was back again to AMKH, but Monday was a blue one, I was attacked with this naughty diarrhea which caused me to take MC. So does Brother! Both of us were like taking turns to shit. Haha! I took the chance to do my case study which I've improved. I did all of my 5 patient's case study and my lecturer was like SO HAPPY! that she smiled the whole day and keep saying that I've kept to my words and proved her wrong. I was so relieved and very happy that she said that. The following days, she was extremely nice and soft towards me.
Of course, this posting has made me learn alot about how important it is family support to help the patients feel motivated to continue with rehab and get discharge as soon as possible. Those family who are supportive, I’m really proud and respect them. Those family who doesn’t I just don’t know what to say. Everytime, I see these patients, just made me miss my granny back then when I used to visit my granny at St. Andrews every week and back to Bedok. Now, she’s in Sembawang, I only get to meet her once a month. Gosh, and I’m so worried about her health plus losing weight everytime I meet her. And now, she’s having amnesia according to doctor. She needs a lot of walking around, looking at pictures and talking.
Hmm, apart from all that, I made a lot of friends in this posting. Really cool bunch of people and friendly. Well, thanks for the company! I really enjoyed this posting despite all the trouble I had to went through & oh! That one make up day I had to due to MC. But, shh! Mr Rohizad let me off at 1pm! And I only did 5 hours of posting. Hahaha!. (:
